Can it really be said that we left Egypt without the permission of the Egyptians? From Exodus chapter 12 we see they threw us out after the effects of the tenth plague. Only later, in chapter 14, they have a change of heart after we had already left.

  2. We could perhaps approach this question in two ways. First, it could be contended that regardless of their previous permission for the Jewish People, it is the perception of the Egyptian people at the Yam that is our focus. At the Yam, the Egyptians saw the Jewish People as leaving without permission even if the latter were in fact leaving with permission.

Second, Pharaoh actually only gave Moshe permission to leave for a week in order to worship the Jewish God. As such, when the Jews were leaving by crossing the Yam, thereby departing permanently without any intention of returning, they were in fact doing so contrary to Pharaoh's will.

I hope this clarifies my point.
